Let’s talk about protein shakes (and other supplements).

If you know me or follow me on social media, you might have heard or seen me talk about the supplements I use, particularly the protein. I’m in LOVE with IdealRaw because I get quality products that I can trust. I still read the labels, but I feel good putting this stuff in my body.

I have tried so many different protein powders over the last 15 years of my fitness journey, and I always felt like I was compromising either in taste or quality. The ones that tasted good were either loaded with sugar or artificial sweeteners, or ridiculously processed and laden with artificial chemicals, and the ones that had a better ingredients list tasted awful. I used a sucralose laden protein for over a year recently because it tasted so much better than most of the good ones, but I felt soooo guilty.

Then I tried Idealraw. Game. Changer. It’s not perfectly smooth, but it’s less gritty than the other vegan proteins I’ve tried and tastes amazing. I’ve tried the Chocolate, vanilla, mocha, chocolate peanut butter, and Superberry flavors and love them all. Chocolate peanut butter is my favorite!

Why a vegan protein powder?

For me, no reason. Y’all know I love me some meat. I do feel like it’s easier to find a “clean” protein powder that is veggie based.

If you want the absolute cleanest, pure as the driven snow protein, here it is on Amazon . I tried it and it’s ok, but I like my fun flavors. 😉

Here’s the nutrition panel on the Chocolate peanut butter:

I’m super happy with only one gram of sugar. Most Idealraw flavors have about the same, I think. You can look at all the nutrition panels on the site when you order.

I use the protein as a post workout/breakfast smoothie with almond milk, a banana, and blueberries after my Peloton rides, and as a post workout recovery drink later after I do my Jillian for the day, adding in….

Superfood Powder

This stuff adds a bunch of goodness to your smoothie for only 45 calories and another 5g of carbs.

It does add a little more grit, but even with it, these shakes are less gritty than the other clean protein powders I’ve tried.

Matcha

I am generally not a bandwagon girl, but because of my anxiety I decided to give up caffeinated coffee to hopefully facilitate healing my adrenals-plus most coffee is suuuuper heavily sprayed with pesticides-so I try to limit myself to one or two cups of Dunkin’ Decaf a week. The heart loves what it loves, y’all. I found, though, that I not only missed the ritual of morning coffee, but I could really use a little boost getting started and to fuel my first thing in the morning exercise, which I didn’t want to do on an empty stomach. Enter Matcha, which is basically concentrated green tea, and has a bajillion (scientific term) health benefits like reduced inflammation, boosted metabolism, and a more gentle type of caffeine. I’d experimented with “bulletproof” or “fatty” coffee during my Wild Diet/Keto days, and loved how it made me feel, so I merged it with matcha and made:

Mae’s Fatty Matcha Latte:

1.5 scoop (1.5 tsp) IdealRaw Matcha

8oz hot unsweetened vanilla almond milk

1 Tbsp kerrygold butter

1 Tbsp coconut oil

5 drops vanilla stevia (link)

1/2 tsp cinnamon

I put all that in a cup and blend with my stick blender (can also use a normal blender) until it’s frothed and enjoy!

Other IdealRaw products I use:

Calm:

This I take to help with my anxiety, and to help my adrenals heal because they are so taxed. It has lots of great adaptogenic herbs and vitamins. You can read lots more on the IdealRaw site and you can google the herbs to learn even more. I did a ton of research on what could help me, and was so thrilled to find so much in one supplement!

Defense:

This is a probiotic and immune boosting supplement and partly because of my OCD it gives me some security I’m taking good care of my insides. I also like all the anti inflammatory stuff like turmeric, ginger, and black pepper, because I find that to be helpful for workout recovery when you work out as hard as me.

Probiotic

I also take the dedicated probiotic, because good bugs are good, and some research has supported a connection between gut heath and mental health, and Mama needs allll the healing.

I don’t sell this stuff, so I’m really not pushing a product for my own benefit, it’s just what I use and I really like it. If you do order using my referral code (MAEGAN-R8) you’ll get an extra 10% off whatever special is on, and I get a percentage off a future order too. 🤗

Let me know if you try it and what you think!
